If you smoke as much as I do, you’ll need to clean your Yankee Inhaler. The nature of cannabis flower smoke creates tars and resins that get trapped in the pipe. Not to worry… the Yankee Inhaler is a breeze to clean.
Don’t wait too long to clean your Yankee Inhaler. You may experience an unwelcome “droob” of nasty resin in your mouth. A quick cleaning once a month will prevent this even with the most chronic of puffers.
Have some paper towels handy to keep all that resin contained. A scooping tool (you may have received one with your Inhaler) or even a Q-Tip will help to pull out excess crud.
Step 1:
Run a flame through the bowl as if you are lighting it. This will loosen up any of the resin that hardens some when it’s cool. It will help to free up the mouthpiece for Step 2.
Step 2:
Grab the bowl’s body in one hand and the mouthpiece in the other. Give the mouthpiece a twist. It should loosen enough for you to pull them apart.
Step 3:
Time to pry that screen out. Use that cleaning tool, paper clip, a nail or tweezers to get it out. I like to use tweezers because I like to burn my screen over an ashtray. Let that sucker cool down before you grab it to work out the excess ash in the screen. Put that cleaned screen aside for now.
Step 4
Using the scoop tool (or Q-tip, whatever.) reach into the mouthpiece hole. Do a swirl toward the base of the body and pick up the excess crud. Depending on how dirty your Inhaler is, you’ll have to dig in there a few times. Wipe off all that black stuff on your paper towels. Don’t let the resin get away from you, it’s pretty nasty stuff.
Step 5:
While you’re in there, scrape out the bowl to remove any accumulation. Don’t be too aggressive, just a light scrape will do. Next, reach down the draw hole a see if you can get any excess crud out.
Step 6:
If you have some strong alcohol handy (Everclear works well), wipe the face of the mouthpiece. Maybe wipe off the “stem” part that sticks in the pipe’s body as well.
Step 7:
Reassemble your Yankee Inhaler by simply pushing the mouthpiece into the body with a half twist. You now have a clean Inhaler. Fill, smoke and repeat.
